Payment recovery · PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to Recover Money from a Chinese Supplier

Recovery usually turns on identity, evidence, leverage and timing. A strong demand is built on a clear claim and a credible next step.

Build the claim before making threats

Match every payment to the relevant order, account holder and contractual promise. Record what was delivered, what was not, the refund requests and the supplier’s responses.

Avoid repeated informal extensions that make the deadline unclear. A focused written demand should state the parties, obligation, breach, amount, deadline and proposed escalation.

Choose the proportionate route

Commercial negotiation may be sensible where operations continue or assets are uncertain. Litigation or arbitration becomes more credible when the correct party, forum, evidence and enforcement target are established.

Urgent measures may be relevant in some cases, but requirements, security and cost must be assessed individually.
